WomenSafe Welcomes You!
WomenSafe provides emergency shelter and support services for survivors of domestic violence in Northeast Ohio. WomenSafe is a non-profit organization that offers information, counseling, education, referrals and support to victims of domestic violence.
October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic violence traumatizes victims, endangers children, harms families, and threatens communities. According to the most recent reports from the Department of Justice, in our country, every day four women are murdered by boyfriends or husbands and every nine seconds a woman is assaulted and beaten. Seventy percent of men who batter their partners either sexually or physically also abuse their children. Children who are subjected to domestic violence often grow up to inflict violence on others, creating a cycle of violence that must be stopped. Silence will not protect these families.
Speak Up: If you have reason to suspect someone you know is a victim of domestic violence -- do not ignore it. Should you witness abuse, whether it is someone you know or a complete stranger, call the police immediately. If you know someone who is a perpetrator, let him or her know it is a crime. Explain you strongly disapprove of their behavior and encourage him or her to get help.
